Reynolds' Report

Happy November, Roadrunner Families!

November is one of my favorite months at First Street School! The mornings are crisp, the leaves are falling all over our playground, and our students are settled into routines that let them really grow. It’s also a month that reminds me to slow down and notice what I’m thankful for. This year, my list starts with you.

This month we have a big opportunity to connect: Parent-Teacher Conferences. From November 16th through 20th, students will be dismissed at 12:30 each day so teachers can meet with every family. Conferences are my favorite kind of conversation because they bring together the two groups who know your child best. Please come with your questions, your celebrations, and anything you’re wondering about. You know things about your child that we don’t, and we want to hear them!

You may also hear your child talk about the adults at school who check in with them about everyday things, like a new puppy, a favorite game, or what they had for breakfast. That’s on purpose. This year, every adult on our campus is making a point to have a simple, friendly conversation with a student each day. Feeling known matters, and it helps kids learn.

I hope to see you at Coffee Chat on the 10th and at Family Music Night on the 19th. Thank you for sharing your children with us. I’m grateful for every one of them!

National School Psychology Week | November 2nd-6th

This week we celebrate the people who help our students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Our school psychologist, Ms. Nilson, works behind the scenes every day to make sure each child gets what they need. If you’d like to join in, help your child write a short thank-you note or draw a picture for Ms. Nilson. Notes can be sent in with your child or dropped off at the front office. A few kind words go a long way!

Walking Wednesday | November 4th and 18th, 7:35-7:55am

Lace up those shoes! Join us before school for Walking Wednesday. It’s a fun, easy way to start the day with movement, fresh air, and friends. Families are welcome to walk with us. We’d love to see you out there!

College and Career Spirit Day | Friday, November 6th

Show your future plans! Students are invited to wear a shirt from a favorite college or university, or dress like the career they dream about. Future doctors, firefighters, chefs, and engineers are all welcome. It’s a great chance to talk at home about what your child wants to be when they grow up.

Evacuation Drill | Monday, November 9th

Just a heads-up: we will practice an evacuation drill on Monday. Drills help students know exactly what to do and stay calm in a real emergency. You might ask your child about it that evening. Talking it through at home helps them feel even more prepared.

Coffee Chat with Ms. Reynolds | Tuesday, November 10th, 8:15-9:15am, Cafeteria

Grab a cup of coffee and come say hello!

This month we will be writing Gratitude Cards with your students! Our first 40 minutes will be for you to connect, ask questions, and share your ideas about our school. The last 20 minutes will be time for you to connect with your kiddos and write notes of gratitude together! This was a great success last month and I loved seeing your kids get so excited to see their parents during the school day!

No sign-up needed. Just drop in after drop-off. I’d love to see you there!

No School: Veterans Day | Wednesday, November 11th

There is no school on Wednesday, November 11th, in honor of Veterans Day. We thank all the veterans in our First Street family and community for their service.

Spirit Wear Friday: Anything But a Backpack Day! | Friday, November 13th

This one is always a favorite! On Friday, students can bring their school things in anything except a backpack. Think laundry baskets, wagons, toy boxes, buckets, or a cooler. Get creative, but please keep it safe, something your child can carry on their own, and small enough to fit in the classroom. Of course, Roadrunner spirit wear is always welcome too!

Food Pantry Delivery | Fridays, November 13th (Produce) and November 20th (Non-Perishables)

Our food pantry will receive two deliveries this month: fresh produce on November 13th and non-perishable items on November 20th. All families are welcome. Please reach out to the front office with any questions.

Extra Early Release Conference Week | November 16th-20th, 12:30 Dismissal

Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm every day this week so teachers can meet with families. Please plan pickup and after-school care for these early afternoons. Your child’s teacher will reach out about your conference time. We look forward to meeting with you!

PTO Meeting | Wednesday, November 18th, 5:30-6:30pm

Our PTO makes so many special moments happen for our students. Come to the meeting to hear what’s coming up, share your ideas, and meet other First Street families. Everyone is welcome, and you don’t need any experience to get involved.

Phil Tulga Family Music Night | Thursday, November 19th, 5:30-7:00pm, Cafeteria

Bring the whole family for an evening of music! Phil Tulga leads a hands-on, interactive music experience where kids and grown-ups get to play, sing, and make music together. This event is free and open to all families. Come ready to join in the fun!

Spirit Wear Friday | November 20th

Wear your Roadrunner Purple! Show your Roadrunner pride with First Street spirit wear or school colors.

No School: Thanksgiving Break | November 23rd-27th

There is no school the week of Thanksgiving. We hope your family enjoys a restful break full of good food and time together. School resumes Monday, November 30th.

Meet Ms. V!

Meet Ms.V , counselor at First Street School.

I grew up in Fresno and this is my 1st year at First Street.

I got into this work becauseI think it is important for all students to have a safe space to share their feelings. I also love helping students and their families become successful in any way I possibly can.

The best part of my day is taking a break out at recess and seeing my students smiling, having fun, and showing kindness.

Something people might not know about me is that my favorite animal is the elephant. I was even able to swim with elephants when I was in Thailand a couple of summers ago.

Outside of school you will find me napping, hanging out with friends and family, or at the gym!

Meet Mr. Sullivan!

Meet Zachary Sullivan, first grade teacher at First Street School.

I grew up in Roseville and this is my first year at First Street.

I got into this work because teaching is my passion, and creating a classroom where children feel safe, welcomed, and valued is incredibly important to me. It’s the kind of environment I wish I had growing up, and I hope to provide that same sense of belonging and support for every student who walks into my classroom.

The best part of my day is the morning meeting. I truly love hearing students answer questions and then telling me about their weekends and stuff they want to do for fun.

Something people might not know about me: I love animals. I have 1 dog, 2 cats, a fish tank and a pet snake. In another life I would have been a veterinarian.

Outside of school you will find me hanging with my family or my friends at local events or playing video games at home.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops collection continues digitally all year with the Box Tops app. First Street School gets $0.10 for each Box Top scanned for our school. While that isn't much on its own, the whole school community collecting them from Participating Products throughout the year can earn enough to pay for things like software memberships, supplies for classroom activities, or other low cost school support.

  • Earn Box Tops for participating products by scanning receipts with the Box Tops app.
  • When you shop online or use delivery services, you can earn Box Tops by forwarding your e-receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com or by uploading it with the Box Tops app. Learn more about submitting e-receipts here.
